"A Wild Man—or Story.—Quite an excitement was created the first of the week by the report that a wild man had been seen in town. The story is told that Amasa Hutchins and wife went to church and left two boys at home. They soon became uneasy and went into the field to amuse themselves, and while jumping and rolling, a strange object came out of the woods and began to imitate their movements, which frightened them so much that they ran to Mr. Low’s near by and got him and his hired man to go in pursuit. They returned to the place where he had disappeared, but searched in vain for some time, but while standing near a fallen tree, he leaped out from beneath it giving an unearthly yell, leaping twenty or thirty feet into the bushes, and was lost to sight. They describe him as three or four feet high and covered with hair, while the hair on his head was fire red and hung over his shoulders.
