Robert Mark Laurenson (1906-1982) wrote three mysteries. He had no training in writing, but after growing so disgusted over one mystery he read, he decided to write a better one. That was his first book, The Case of the Railroad Murder.
Laurenson was born in Illinois, and worked for railway companies. At the time of his first book, in 1948, he and his wife lived in Verona, Pennsylvania, where he worked for the Union Switch and Signal Co. From 1949 to 1970, he was the superintendent of communications at the Frisco Railway, working from Springfield, Missouri. After 1970, he retired, but continued consulting for the railway.
His first two books, published with Phoenix Press, featured railway lawyer Marc Jordan. The third, Better Off Dead, published with Arcadia House, was a stand-alone mystery.
