"In more recent years, attention has
switched from East and Central Africa to south
western Africa, specifically Namibia itself—where pterosaur-like beasts as big as Cessna
aeroplanes have been reported! They intrigued
American cryptozoologist Prof. Roy Mackal so greatly that in summer 1988 he and a party of
fellow investigators travelled to Namibia in
search of further details—and possible sightings—of these winged wonders. Their focus was
an isolated private property, owned by German
settlers, in a desert area. After interviewing
some of the area’s locals, the team was able to
describe the creature in question as a featherless beast with a colossal wingspan close to 30
ft, which mainly glided through the air but was
capable of true flight too, and was usually spied
at dusk, gliding between crevices in two kopjes
(hills) about a mile apart.
"Despite daily periods of observation, the
team was not initially successful, and Mackal
eventually returned home to the United States.
No sooner had he done so, however, than one
of his colleagues, James Kosi, who had stayed
on in Namibia, allegedly saw the creature. From
a distance of about 1,000 ft, he caught sight of
something that he described as a giant glider,
principally black, but with white markings."
