"The Guandong Maoren is a reputed giant mystery hominid from Manchuria (present-day northeastern China). This creature is alleged to resemble a human, as it stands and walks bipedally. It is hairy, very tall, and strong. It is capable of using tools and/or weapons.
"Yuan Mei in his Zibuyu described an abduction case by one such creature. A ginseng picker named Xu Shangen was taken by a powerful, reddish-haired giant man in the Changbai Mountain region. The ginseng hunter was said to have lived for a time as a companion for it, though he was eventually released. The giant man was emotional, had great hunting ability, and was a highly skilled archer. It could communicate non verbally, but could not speak.
"Allegedly, a squad leader named Li Genshan and his men watched an extraordinary manlike biped approach their campsite during a mission to Lesser Khingan in July 1964. It was male, about 2 meters (6.6 ft) in height and entirely covered with 3-centimeter-long (1.2-inch-long), yellowish-brown hair (with long, black shoulder-length hair from its head). It was human-like but exhibited much larger ears, arms, hands, and legs. It carried a long walking stick. They tried to capture it alive, but it struggled and walked off. The following day, however, the creature revisited the camp. It entered the kitchen, eating all of the cooked noodles, and died two or three hours later, apparently due to overeating. The soldiers buried the body and set out on their mission. After finishing their mission, some twenty days later, they returned to the site, but found the body unearthed, with little evidence remaining."
